What is the gold rate today for 22 carat per gram?
The 22 carat gold rate per gram is shown in the Saudi Arabia table above in SAR, and in any other currency in the gold by karat table. 22K is 91.7% pure, so its rate per gram is 22/24 of the 24K rate.
Why is gold priced in troy ounces?
Gold and silver are traded worldwide in troy ounces. One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams — slightly heavier than the regular ounce of 28.35 g used for everyday goods, so always check which ounce a price refers to.
What is a tola?
The tola is a traditional weight used in the gold markets of Pakistan, India and the Gulf. 1 tola = 11.66 grams, so one troy ounce is about 2.67 tola.
What do 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K mean?
Karat measures purity out of 24 parts. 24K is pure gold; 22K is 91.7% gold, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75%, with the rest made of other metals for strength. Prices scale by the same fraction — 18K costs three quarters of the 24K rate per gram.
Why does a jeweller's or exchange's price differ from these rates?
These are mid-market spot rates — the raw value of the metal and the middle rate between buy and sell for currencies. Jewellers add making charges and taxes, and money exchanges keep a margin, so the price you pay will be a little higher and the price you receive a little lower.
